Atlas Mountains are known to be a world famous tourist destination. The snow topped peaks kissing the skies, lush greenery and the amalgamation of culture and rural life peacefully co-existing with nature is something you don’t get to see often! Ah, I feel the adrenaline rush just by talking about it! Apart from this, people from all over come here to learn about its infamous geological formation.

When in Marrakech, it’s about a 90 minute drive with a pleasant view through the rocky terrain. There’s plenty to do while in the Atlas Mountains.

First and foremost, without a doubt, has to be the hike to Mt Toubkal. At 4,167 metres (13,671 ft), it happens to be North Africa’s highest peak. Remember to carry a backpack with all essentials.

If travelling by a vehicle, the famous “Snake road”, can be seen from the road. Trucks loaded with hay going up and down the mountains is a common observation. Women with their donkeys loaded with sacks of produce, shepherds with their sheep everywhere in the green farms are other common sights.

Next, a visit to the Berber village is something you absolutely cannot miss! These villages are drop dead beautiful. The settlements are well built using the local materials. The villagers here are traditionally dressed in Djellaba. The men can be seen taking care of the livestock, while the women can be seen engaged in daily chores like working in the farm, purchasing produce. The amount of hard work that goes into their daily lives is really inspiring. 

The Berbers are also well known for their hospitality. Don’t be surprised if you are invited to a tea ceremony. The experience will truly warm your heart.

Camel rides and bike riding are other famous fun activities to try, while here. It is absolutely a must try for every adventure seeker out there. Albeit, a bit challenging for someone who isn’t accustomed to it but the adrenaline thrill is real!

Another thing to not miss, while here are the cute dainty cafes serving scrumptious food and Moroccan mint tea. They do the perfect job of helping you unwind after a long day’s trek. 

The place is also well known for world famous carpets. But, don’t forget to up your bargaining skills!
